The coconut is featured in early Sanskrit writings and had been mentioned in Hindu (or Indian) epic stories and puranas. It seems to have adopted very late into Aryan rituals, and Northern India may have become familiar with the nut long after it was used in the coastal south. The name coconut or kera has been originated in Southern Coastal region, which is Kerala at present. The legendary story behind this is the creation of Kerala by PARASU RAM a warrior sage. The word Parasu means ‘axe’ in Sanskrit. The aim of his birth was to deliver the world from the arrogant oppression of the ruling caste, the Kshatriyas (Kings). He conquered India 21 times killing all the male Kshatriyas on earth with his battle-axe and filled five lakes with their blood. After destroying the Kshatriyas Kings, he apologized to his master to find a way of penitence for his sins. He was advised that, to save his soul from damnation, he must hand over the lands he had conquered to the Brahmins. He did as they advised and threw his battle-axe towards the South-Kanyakumari. It seems, due to the friction of the marine currants created by the massive force by which the axe was thrown, the first seeds of the coconut fell and germinated on the southern coasts of the Western Ghats. Initially, the fruit was not known for human consumption but at the same time floated to the neighboring islands of Sri Lanka and the African coast. While thrown his barrier-axe, the magnetic fraction of the currants tilted the sea to create a space and the gods own land was created called Kerala. With the blessing of Varuna (the God of the Oceans) and Bhumidevi (the God of the Earth), he donated the Kerala to 7 families of Upper caste (Brahmins). It is a nature of Law; any proclaimed land from the Sea is facing problems for the Occupants (Those who residence nearer to the sea will be washed out). Many times, the Sea is attacking frequently the Kerala. Sea is coming for seen her own land. According to the puranas, Kerala is also known as Parasurama Kshetram,-‘The land of Parasurama’, as the land was reclaimed from sea by him. The name Kerala is derived from two words: Kera means “ The land of the coconuts”. And little wonder, for the state is covered with coconut palms. Cocos Nucifera is the Botanical name of the common coconut. This fruit of the coco palm begins life on a tree that towers from 60 to 100 feet high. Because it is peculiarly suited for dispersion across tropical Islands- as its big seed is filled with buoyant water and encased in a watertight pod. Later on, it traveled to the neighboring Islands. The white fleshy part of the seed is edible and used fresh or dried in cooking. The cavity is filled with coconut water, which contains sugar, fiber, proteins, anti-oxidants, vitamins and minerals. The sap derived from incising the flower clusters of the coconut is fermented to produce palm wine, also known as “toddy”. Boiling to create a sweet syrup or candy can also reduce the sap. Coconut water can be used in sports drinks. Coir (the fibre from the husk of the coconut) is used in ropes, mats and brushes, caulking boats and as stuffing fiber. It is also used extensively in Horticulture for making potting compost. Copra is the dried meat of the seed and is the main source of coconut oil. The leaves provide materials for baskets and roofing thatch. Palm wood comes from the trunk and is increasingly being used as an ecologically sound substitute for endangered hardwoods. It has several applications, particularly in furniture. The husk and shells can be used for fuel and are a good source of charcoal. The stiff leaflet midrib can be used to make cooking skewers, kindling arrows, or are bound into bundles, brooms and brushes. The roots are used as a dye, a mouthwash and a medicine for dysentery. A frayed – out piece of root can also be used as a toothbrush. Making rugs and mattresses from coconut fiber. The leaves can be woven to create effective roofing materials or reed mats. Dried coconut leaves can be burned to ash, which can be harvested for lime. Coconut is also commonly used as an herbal remedy in Pakistan to treat bites from rats. (Shalimar -- ONLY LICENSE HOLDER TO IMPORT COCO-PEAT TO DUBAI) Coconut History from Vedas (GOD'S OWN NUTS) Coconut palms feature in Indian writings dating back to more than 2000 years but the coconut existed more than 10,000 years back. Coconut fiber cannot be infected with bacteria due to the presence of an enzyme called loric acid, which acts as anti-bacterial property and is also used for horticultural purposes.
